Almost 37,000 households in Roosendaal connected to Ziggo Gigabit internet

The municipality in Noord-Brabant is ready for the future with Ziggo GigaNet

    16 november 2021

Almost 37,000 households and business premises in Roosendaal were connected today to Ziggo's fastest Internet connection. This will enable customers in this municipality to obtain download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. With this latest connection, Ziggo is providing gigabit speeds to a total of approximately 5.2 million Dutch households and businesses. In the course of 2022, all customers will have access to download speeds of up to 1 Gbps through the existing network.

In recent times, Ziggo’s network has been improved. As a result, it wasn't necessary to dig up the street. The 1 Gbps download speeds are therefore available with immediate effect.

    Network investments
Recently, the cable network in Roosendaal was technically prepared for gigabit internet, with Ziggo technicians installing more than 55,151 new connectors for home connections and replacing more than 5,148 connection cables in 2,941 street cabinets. A total of more than 5 kilometres of new network cabling in street cabinets and local exchanges. As a result of all these innovations, Ziggo will switch on entire cities or regions at once, instead of high-speed internet being available on a street or neighbourhood basis.

Signal mainly via fibre optic cable
Ziggo's fixed network consists of fibre optics and coaxial cables, and on this network, the route that the internet signal takes from the data centre to a home connection mainly runs via fibre optic cables. Only the last part, from the fiber node to the living room, goes via coaxial cables, with Ziggo applying DOCSIS 3.1 technology to this coaxial section. This also enables high Internet speeds to be achieved, with downloads already reaching up to 1 Gbps, and this technology ensures that speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second will become possible within a few years. Upload speeds will also increase over time. In April VodafoneZiggo achieved a download speed of 10 gigabits per second on its existing fixed network during a test. With this sort of speed, for example, a two-hour 4K film can be downloaded in 10 seconds.

    GIGA subscription
Ziggo's new 'GIGA' subscription includes: internet up to 1 Gbps download and 50 Mbps upload, the most comprehensive television channel package via the interactive Mediabox Next, Ziggo Movies & Series XL (Home or HBO), Ziggo Sport, Ziggo GO app and a fixed telephone connection.
