Nothing is better than living on the basis of your strengths. Feeling good in your own skin, being positive about your life, challenging yourself and having a sense of control. That is why VodafoneZiggo has a broad vitality programme for employees. This focuses on four areas: mentally fit, physically fit, socially connected and financially fit.

When you feel good about yourself, everything is a little bit easier. From a challenging task at work to an evening of sports. What can you do to feel fit and healthy? How do you ensure that you start and end your day feeling energetic? How do you derive satisfaction from your day? How do you get the best from yourself? “You have more power over that than you may think”, says Dorien Hendriksen from the HR department. “That’s why we offer employees inspiring information, professional support, training courses and programmes that can help them get started.”

“Wellbeing is about you as a person: ‘how things are going’, with yourself and your environment. How things are going at work and in your private life. These two areas are inherently intertwined”, says Dorien. “We often tend to think about healthy food, exercising enough, your body mass index, or quitting unhealthy habits, such as smoking. These are important issues but do not provide the whole picture when it comes to overall wellbeing.”
Making an impact
That’s why VodafoneZiggo also focuses on other aspects. “For example your social connections, making an impact, your sense of involvement, appreciation, job satisfaction, fulfilment. Do you have a positive self-image? All of these things are necessary in order to feel good about yourself and to be able to perform well. And we don’t necessarily view stress as the ‘Big Bad’. The right degree of stress ensures that you remain focused, find your flow and can perform optimally and with a feeling of enjoyment. All those things are addressed in our programme for employees. Because a healthy employee helps build a healthy company.” It is only when your employees feel good that you can create an efficient team. The power of the team equates to the power of each individual.”

A sense of calm
This focus lies on financial fitness. “Having control of your money offers a sense of calm in you and your wallet. It may be that dreams which, at first, appear financially out of reach gradually become viable. With insight and an overview, you can effectively anticipate important or unforeseen circumstances. This could include inflation, cohabiting, having a bigger family, unemployment, pension, etc. We therefore offer a broad programme which provides insights into ‘how well prepared am I financially for the coming year?’ Could I be smarter with my money? How can I ensure that I am financially fit?”

Work/home balance
“We offer accessible, professional support. We thus help our employees, even if they encounter unexpected situations. This could involve a conversation with an independent professional, a chat with a confidential counsellor, courses about integrating and/or finding a balance between your work and home life, or tips for relaxing. We also have the 90-day 'Awaken Your Inner Champ’ programme, which allows you to uncover the best version of yourself. Also, there is a lot of attention to physical fitness. We regularly engage in interesting challenges such as the Step Challenge or the Connect Run. You can take part in (digital) sports lessons, clinics and large sports events for free. So get moving and socialising! Sports is more fun when we do it together. Particularly if you can support a charity at the same time.”

Changing times
But there is still more to do socially, explains Dorien. “Contact with your colleagues is often vital to maintain your wellbeing, particularly as so many of us are now working from home. That’s why we encourage colleagues to meet each other in various (online) communities and we organise (virtual) drinks and coffee sessions. Everything is developed with, by and for our own employees. That means that they include elements that are valuable to everyone. This is precisely why it is so highly valued within our organisation.
