From this week, anyone with a digital question can visit the Digital Walk-in Hours in all VodafoneZiggo shops. On Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am-12pm, employees of the telecom company will be on hand to offer personal assistance. Everyone is welcome to ask questions about safe internet browsing, UEFA European football streaming via the Ziggo GO app and creating a Ziggo Sport Free account for this, among other things.
Earlier this year, VodafoneZiggo introduced Digital Tuesday, a weekly walk-in consultancy in four selected shops. After this successful trial, the telecom company is now expanding the consultation hour. Under the name Digital Walk-in Hours, there will now be four mornings a week and everyone is welcome in all VodafoneZiggo shops.
Digital Walk-in Hours
During Digital Walk-in Hours, staff have extra time to help customers and non-customers, including many elderly people, with digital questions. Topics range from setting a larger font on a phone to downloading apps and PDFs. Employees also help with questions about watching UEFA European football, as, from now on, non-Ziggo customers stream matches of Dutch clubs with the Ziggo GO app.
Inclusion
The possibilities of digital technology are endless. However, it is not self-evident that everyone can use it, VodafoneZiggo knows. Older people, for example, often experience fear and uncertainty when using digital devices. Research by Innovation Inc (2023) shows that many of them turn to telecom shops for help, especially if they do not have family nearby.
Anne Hustinx, director at VodafoneZiggo and responsible for digital inclusion, explains: "With our Digital Walk-in Hours, we want to help people become more confident with digital devices. Our staff take the time to offer personal support to anyone with digital questions. We help with tips and skills that can make a big difference in everyday life. In this way, we want to help reduce the digital divide so that everyone can participate in the digital society."
UEFA European football
From this football season, football matches in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League can be seen exclusively on Ziggo Sport. Football fans without Ziggo or Ziggo Sport Totaal can stream the football matches of the participating Dutch clubs and the finals for free via the Ziggo GO app. Signing up is easy. If required, VodafoneZiggo shop employees will help at the Digital Walk-in Hours. People will also find additional explanations in the new module Digital TV watching & streaming on Welkomonline.nl.
Alliantie Digitaal Samenleven
At the launch of Digital Tuesday in April, VodafoneZiggo teamed up with the Alliantie Digitaal Samenleven to create a directory of local agencies offering support on digital issues. This enabled shop employees to refer customers to the appropriate assistance, especially when they could not answer certain questions for privacy reasons.
This system worked well. Employees in all shops have now been trained to answer digital questions and know how to refer to nearby agencies when appropriate. In this way, they can ensure that elderly people get the specialised help they need, for instance with complex questions about banking or DigiD. Moreover, older people can be linked to initiatives that support them in learning digital skills, such as the free learning programme Welcome Online.
