While the election battle in the Netherlands is in full swing, the football world is gearing up for the LaLiga clash between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid on Sunday night. “El Clásico is the biggest game of the year,” says Ziggo Sport commentator Sierd de Vos. To get people in the spirit of the match, he therefore founded the tongue-in-cheek Party of the Year.
Those who were paying close attention will already have seen Party of the Year election posters at various locations around Utrecht this morning. Visually, party leader Sierd de Vos fits seamlessly between posters of the VVD, SP and CDA with his ‘Party of the Year’. De Vos: “The campaign ties in nicely with the Provincial Council race. Our election campaign has just one goal, and that is to get people in the spirit of the Party of the Year: El Clásico, airing live Sunday night on Ziggo Sport.”
This morning, the Party of the Year was introduced with a campaign video on Ziggo Sport. This afternoon, the party leader and his campaign team will visit Utrecht city centre to get local residents in the right mood. In addition, this week the Ziggo Dome façade and the large LED screen on the station square at Hoog Catharijne will be dedicated to the Party of the Year.
El Clásico is an important match for the Spanish national championship in LaLiga. FC Barcelona is defending a lead of nine points over its arch-rival from Madrid. The match starts Sunday night at 21:00 hours and Ziggo Sport will be broadcasting it live and exclusively on Ziggo Sport Football. The preview starts at 20:45 hours.
