Ziggo Sport will continue to broadcast the Spanish football league LaLiga exclusively for the next seven years. The channel has succeeded in extending the broadcasting rights, which were already held by Ziggo Sport until the summer of 2024, until 2029. Spain expert and football commentator Sierd de Vos will also remain associated with Ziggo Sport and will continue to report on matches from the highest Spanish football competition in the coming years.
The extension concerns the rights to broadcast matches live and in summary on television, the internet and via social media. The Spanish topflight, which has a decades-long connection with Dutch top trainers and football players, can be followed weekly via Ziggo Sport, the free channel for all digital Ziggo subscribers and via the Ziggo Sport Totaal pay TV package, which is available from all distributors in the Netherlands.
A legendary commentator
Spain expert Sierd de Vos has been a reporter for Spanish football since 1995 and has been providing commentary for Ziggo Sport at Spanish football matches since 2014. Now that the rights have been secured up to and including 2029, the Ziggo Sport audience will also be assured of the facts, reports and anecdotes from one of the most outspoken and popular football commentators in the Netherlands in the coming years.
Marcel Beerthuizen, director of Ziggo Sport: “In recent months we have succeeded in retaining important football rights, such as LaLiga and Ligue 1. We are very happy that Sierd will continue to provide commentary for LaLiga in the coming years. The full stadiums, illustrious clubs and global top players together with Sierd's distinctive style and exhaustive knowledge of Spanish football make the competition a joy to watch."
LaLiga's Audiovisual Director Melcior Soler: “Dutch football fans love to watch LaLiga. We have been working together with Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands for many years. Through the channel the whole of the Netherlands can experience the competition up close on a weekly basis. We are delighted that Ziggo Sport will remain our exclusive partner for at least another seven years.”
More Football Rights
Ziggo Sport continues to expand its already extensive package of TV rights. Previously, the channel extended the contract with the Italian Serie A and acquired the rights for the French Ligue 1. The rights of the German DFB-Poka were also purchased. The UEFA Champions League, UEFA Nations League, the English FA Cup, Ajax friendly matches, Italian Coppa Italia, the national competitions of Belgium, Portugal and Scotland and the qualifications for World Cups and European Championships can also be viewed via Ziggo Sport and Ziggo Sport Totaal.
