Utrecht/Hilversum, January 20, 2025 – Starting tomorrow, when the UEFA football season resumes, football fans will be able to stream matches involving Dutch clubs without needing to register first for Ziggo Sport Free. Additionally, there will be more football content available: Ziggo customers can now watch a top match on Channel 14 during each match round, while Ziggo Sport Free viewers will be able to stream a highlights compilation of all matches played later in the evening.
These adjustments follow positive developments observed during the first few months of the UEFA football season, such as rising viewership, high technical broadcast quality, and the successful expansion of the presenter team.
“Television viewing habits in the Netherlands are changing rapidly,” said Marcel Beerthuizen, Director of Ziggo Sport. “More and more people combine linear TV viewing with online streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max, or Videoland. With our investments in innovation, technical quality, and accessibility, we aim to offer football fans a unique viewing experience, no matter where or how they watch the matches.”
Watch without registration
Dutch football fans who are not Ziggo customers can now stream UEFA matches involving Ajax, AZ, Feyenoord, PSV, and FC Twente even more easily. Starting tomorrow fans in
The Netherlands can watch these matches without needing to register first.
Marcel Beerthuizen explained, “It has always been our priority to make UEFA football accessible to as many Dutch viewers as possible while fully complying with legal requirements. The Media Authority has recently clarified its expectations on this matter and has requested that we adjust our services accordingly. This makes watching UEFA football even easier and more accessible.”
Non-customers still have the option to register, allowing them to stream matches involving Dutch clubs in other European countries.
More football on TV
Additionally, there is good news for Ziggo customers. From now on, Ziggo Sport will broadcast a top match every match evening at 6:45 PM and 9:00 PM, live on linear TV channel 14. These broadcasts will include matches featuring Dutch clubs as well as a selection of other European matches.
Football fans streaming matches via Ziggo Sport Free will also have access to more football content. They can now stream the popular Ziggo Sport Highlights program, featuring a compilation of all the matches played in an evening. This ensures that both matches involving Dutch clubs and highlights from all UEFA matches are easily available in one central location.
Successful season start
VodafoneZiggo and Ziggo Sport reflect on a successful start to the UEFA football season. Research shows that Ziggo Sport broadcasts are appreciated for their high technical standards, thanks in part to an upgraded studio, enhanced graphics, and innovative techniques.
Additionally, viewers value the expanded team of presenters, commentators, and analysts, who cover the matches with expertise and enthusiasm. Prominent figures include Hélène Hendriks, Wytse van der Goot, Noa Vahle, and Sam van Royen.
VodafoneZiggo emphasizes that these UEFA broadcasts exemplify how new technology is transforming the way sports are experienced. Beerthuizen added, “With investments in both linear TV and streaming services, an upgraded studio, and a skilled presenter team, we continue to raise the bar for sports broadcasting in the Netherlands.”
Viewership numbers
Viewership for UEFA club football continues to rise, with more than one million linear and streaming viewers per match regularly tuning in. Beerthuizen noted, “We are pleased with these numbers, but we don’t fixate on them. We’re only four months into the season, and it’s natural that people need time to get used to the fact that all European club football is now available on one sports channel and simultaneously across multiple platforms.” Ziggo Sport will provide regular updates on viewership numbers throughout the second half of the UEFA season.
The UEFA football season resumes on January 21 with a Champions League match between Red Star Belgrade and PSV (9:00 PM). A day later, Feyenoord will face Bayern Munich at 9:00 PM at home. Both matches will be broadcast live via Ziggo Sport Free, Ziggo Sport (Channel 14), and Ziggo Sport Totaal. For more information: UEFA Europees voetbal | Ziggo]
