VodafoneZiggo’s sustainability goals are in line with the Paris Agreement aimed at reining in global warming. This is the verdict of theScience Based Target initiative (SBTi), after analysing the objectives that the company has set for the emission of pollutants.

The SBTi states that VodafoneZiggo’s goals will help achieve the reductions required to limit global warming to 1.5°C. This is the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement, which was adopted by the United Nations in 2015. CO₂ reduction has been a top priority of VodafoneZiggo’s for many years, which has been operating on a climate-neutral basis since 2019. Just like its parent companies Vodafone Group and Liberty Global, VodafoneZiggo has now committed itself to the SBTi. In this way, the company is making a scientifically substantiated contribution to CO₂ reduction.

Ambitious goals
VodafoneZiggo wants to halve its environmental impact by 2025 – measured in CO₂ – compared to the base year 2018. Moreover, VodafoneZiggo promises to keep its green energy procurement at 100%. In order to achieve its goals, the company is constantly improving its processes and procedures. “One way we do this is by implementing energy-saving measures in our networks and buildings”, says CFO Ritchy Drost. “In addition, we encourage staff to work and travel in an environmentally-conscious manner. We are also helping customers to make environmentally-conscious choices, for example by encouraging them to give used phones and media boxes a second life.”

Investing in green projects
VodafoneZiggo recently published its Green Bond Progress Report. This report clearly sets out the progress that has already been made in achieving its social and sustainability goals. In the past three years, for example, VodafoneZiggo has invested a total of 786 million euros in 60 green projects with a sustainable character. These investments have reduced its CO₂ impact by more than 2 million kg of CO₂ (16%). The energy consumption in our networks and buildings has also been reduced by more than 6,000 MWh (2%).

“I am proud of the vital role that VodafoneZiggo is playing in society”, says Drost. “In addition to delivering valuable connectivity, services and entertainment, we attach great value to limiting our environmental impact. We use 100% wind energy. We recycle and reuse all our network equipment. With the launch of our first Green Bond, we are committing ourselves to achieving our ambitious Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, while also investing in projects to reduce our environmental impact.”

“The approval of our sustainability goals by the Science Based Targets initiative and the certification of our Green Bond Framework by Sustainalytics provides us with the assurance and the confidence that VodafoneZiggo will be able to achieve its objectives”, concludes Drost.
