VodafoneZiggo is the first telecom provider in Europe to make its network ready for DOCSIS 4.0, the latest generation of broadband technology. The upgrade prepares the network for future internet services with higher speeds, including 4 and 8 Gbit/s. Thomas Helbo, Chief Technology Officer of VodafoneZiggo, will announce the network upgrade at SCTE TechExpo in Atlanta. With the large-scale deployment of DOCSIS 4.0, the Netherlands has a fixed network that is even better prepared for future digital applications.
DOCSIS 4.0 unlocks more capacity from the existing network, which currently serves more than 7 million households and businesses. It makes the network faster, smarter and more reliable, without the need to build a new network. This creates room for growing data traffic, new online applications and future internet services with multi-gigabit speeds.
Large-scale upgrade without disruption
VodafoneZiggo prepared its network for DOCSIS 4.0 in eighteen months, while customers were able to keep using their internet connection and without digging. This makes the network more flexible and better suited to growing internet usage, so customers can rely on a connection that meets their digital needs.

Continuous innovation
DOCSIS 4.0 is the third major upgrade of the network in four years. In 2022, VodafoneZiggo was the first telecom provider to offer all its customers speeds of 1 Gbit/s. In October 2025, the company became the largest provider of 2 Gbit/s broadband overnight. With the upgraded network, speeds of 4 and 8 Gbit/s will also become possible.
